New Delhi, December 12. India and Greece held their first-ever Maritime Security Dialogue in Athens on December 11, marking a new chapter in their expanding strategic partnership. The meeting opened with remarks by Greek Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian delegation was led by Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary for Disarmament and International Security Affairs at the Ministry, while the Greek side was represented by Ambassador Andreas Fryganas, Political Director, and Ambassador Maria Theofili, head of the UN Security Council Task Force.
During the talks, both sides shared assessments of the maritime security landscape across the Mediterranean, Arctic, and Indo-Pacific regions. They discussed ways to strengthen a stable and secure maritime environment that supports economic growth, including cooperation in multilateral forums.
The two delegations also explored collaboration in maritime domain awareness, sustainable marine economy initiatives, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, naval cooperation, and improving maritime connectivity and shipping sector engagement.
Both countries expressed strong interest in deepening cooperation across all areas of the maritime domain. They agreed to convene the next round of the dialogue in New Delhi, at a mutually convenient date, once the agreed outcomes of this inaugural meeting are achieved.
