India, Russia to deepen Army-to-Army ties as General Dhiraj Seth begins Moscow visit
New Delhi, Sep 16. Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth began a three-day official visit to Russia on September 16 aimed at strengthening bilateral defence ties and expanding military-to-military cooperation between the two countries.
The visit, which will continue until September 18, comes amid longstanding defence cooperation between India and Russia and will focus on professional military engagement, training and opportunities to further enhance bilateral defence collaboration.
During his stay in Moscow, General Seth will receive a ceremonial guard of honour and pay homage to fallen soldiers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He is also scheduled to hold talks with Colonel General Andrei Nikolayevich Mordvichev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Land Forces, on matters of mutual interest, including military cooperation and training.
The Army chief will visit Russia’s National Defence Control Centre and meet senior officials of the Russian Ministry of Defence. His engagements will include discussions with Deputy Defence Minister Vasily Sergeyevich Osmakov, who oversees defence industry and procurement.
The meetings are expected to provide an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on contemporary military developments and explore avenues for further strengthening defence cooperation.
General Seth will also travel to Saint Petersburg, where he is scheduled to visit the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy. He will interact with the academy’s leadership and faculty as part of the Army-to-Army engagement.
The visit underscores the importance India and Russia attach to continued military diplomacy and sustained institutional engagement between their armed forces. It is expected to contribute to further deepening bilateral military cooperation and reinforcing the longstanding defence relationship between the two countries.
