India, Thailand review defence ties at 10th bilateral dialogue in Bangkok
New Delhi, June 17. India and Thailand reviewed the entire gamut of their defence cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global security challenges during the 10th Thailand-India Defence Dialogue held in Bangkok on June 16.
The talks were co-chaired by Thailand’s Deputy Permanent Secretary for Defence, Admiral Nuttapol Diewvanich, and Joint Secretary in India’s Ministry of Defence, Satyajit Mohanty.
Both sides discussed the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific and shared their assessments of key regional developments. They underscored the importance of closer cooperation to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
The delegations took stock of progress in bilateral defence ties since the previous edition of the dialogue. Discussions focused on military-to-military engagements, training exchanges, capacity-building initiatives and maritime cooperation, along with other areas of mutual interest.
Defence industrial cooperation also featured prominently in the talks, with the two countries exploring ways to enhance collaboration in defence manufacturing, research, innovation and capability development. The discussions aimed at fostering mutually beneficial partnerships between the defence industries of both nations.
The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation under regional and multilateral mechanisms, including ASEAN-led frameworks, and reaffirmed their commitment to addressing common security challenges through dialogue and practical cooperation.
The meeting concluded with discussions on future engagements and ways to further strengthen bilateral defence ties. India and Thailand elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2025, providing fresh impetus to cooperation across sectors, including defence.
