Indian Coast Guard Conducting Regional Level Search and Rescue Exercise
New Delhi, April 23. Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Regional Headquarters (East), Chennai is conducting Regional-level Search and Rescue (SAR) Exercise on April 24, 2025. The exercise aimed at revalidating and enhancing coordination among various maritime and civil agencies in responding to distress situations at sea.
The exercise at ICG Station, Karaikal is a comprehensive SAR Exercise which will feature the active participation of the Indian Navy, Customs, Karaikal Port, and other stakeholders alongwith approximately five surface units and multiple air assets of the ICG. The exercise will simulate a maritime distress scenario, fostering synergy and operational readiness across all involved stakeholders.
As a precursor to this major event a Seminar, Workshop, and Table-Top Exercise was conducted on April 21, Â 2025 by ICG Station Karaikal. The widely participated events marked the beginning of a collaborative, multi-agency effort focused on improving synergy, coordination, and preparedness in managing maritime emergencies. The event was graced by the presence of distinguished dignitaries including Mr. Soma Shekhar Appa Rao, IAS, District Collector, Karaikal, and Mr. T. Aakash, IAS, District Collector, Nagapattinam, along with senior officials from the ICG, district administration, and various stakeholder organizations.
Proceedings commenced with an introductory session highlighting the ICG pivotal role in maritime SAR operations. The event featured expert presentations on contemporary issues and operational topics relevant to maritime safety. Participants from agencies proposed strategies for an effective and coordinated response, reinforcing the importance of unified action.
This landmark event underscored the critical importance of inter-agency collaboration and reaffirmed the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to maritime safety and life-saving operations. The deliberations and enthusiastic participation reflected a collective resolve to strengthen regional SAR capabilities through shared knowledge, innovation, and integrated efforts.
