Indian Navy, Malaysian Navy strengthen maritime ties through Exercise Samudra Laksamana
New Delhi, Sep 14. The Indian Navy and the Royal Malaysian Navy have further strengthened their maritime cooperation with the successful completion of the fourth edition of bilateral naval exercise Samudra Laksamana, held at Lumut, Malaysia, from September 9 to 12.
The exercise was conducted as part of the Indian Navy’s operational deployment and involved Indian Naval Ship INS Mysore and Malaysian naval vessels KD Lekir and KD Gagah Samudera.
The four-day engagement comprised both harbour and sea phases, providing personnel from the two navies an opportunity to exchange professional experiences and enhance mutual understanding.
During the harbour phase, naval personnel participated in professional interactions and exchanges covering a range of operational and maritime issues. The engagements were aimed at sharing operational experience and deepening understanding between the two forces.
The exercise subsequently moved to the operational phase at sea, where INS Mysore operated alongside KD Lekir and KD Gagah Samudera. The participating ships conducted coordinated maritime manoeuvres designed to improve interoperability, operational coordination and the ability of the two navies to operate jointly.
The completion of Samudra Laksamana underscores the growing depth of defence and maritime cooperation between India and Malaysia, while highlighting the importance of sustained professional engagement and practical naval exercises in strengthening operational understanding.
The latest edition of the exercise builds on the momentum in bilateral defence ties, including the 12th India-Malaysia Sub Committee Meeting held on July 1, 2026. The exercise is seen as another important step in consolidating the expanding India-Malaysia maritime partnership and enhancing cooperation between the two naval forces.
