INS Sudarshini concludes three-day visit to Lisbon, strengthening India-Portugal naval ties
New Delhi, Aug 26. Indian Navy sailing training ship INS Sudarshini concluded its three-day port call at Lisbon, Portugal, on August 25 as part of its ongoing Lokayan 26 transoceanic expedition, reinforcing maritime cooperation between India and Portugal.
During the visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini held meetings with Rear Admiral Miguel Bessa Pacheco, Commandant of the Portuguese Naval Academy, and Rear Admiral Joao Paulo Silva Pereira, Deputy Fleet Commander of the Portuguese Navy. The interactions focused on strengthening institutional ties and enhancing mutual understanding between the two maritime forces.
As part of the professional engagements, Indian Navy sea trainees visited the Portuguese Naval Academy, or Escola Naval, where they met their Portuguese counterparts and toured the academy’s historic campus and training facilities. The trainees also exchanged views on seamanship and tall-ship sailing practices.
The port call included a deck reception onboard INS Sudarshini, attended by senior Portuguese military officials, members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of the Indian diaspora.
The ship’s visits to Portugal, including earlier engagements at Ponta Delgada and Lisbon, highlighted the longstanding maritime partnership and close naval ties between India and Portugal.
