INS Sudarshini reaches Barcelona as part of Lokayan 26 transoceanic expedition
New Delhi, Sep 2. Indian Navy’s sail training ship INS Sudarshini arrived in Barcelona, Spain, on September 1 as part of its ongoing transoceanic expedition, Lokayan 26, showcasing India’s maritime traditions and naval sailing capabilities.
During its stay in Barcelona, the ship is scheduled to undertake a series of professional and cultural engagements with the Spanish Navy and other maritime stakeholders. The sea trainees embarked on the vessel will participate in professional interactions and exchanges focused on seamanship and naval sailing practices.
The visit is also aimed at providing the trainees with exposure to international maritime practices and strengthening professional ties between the Indian and Spanish navies.
INS Sudarshini will be opened to visitors on September 4, giving the local community an opportunity to tour the vessel and gain an insight into India’s maritime heritage and its longstanding traditions of ocean sailing and exploration.
The Lokayan 26 expedition is intended to showcase India’s growing engagement with the global maritime community while highlighting the Indian Navy’s emphasis on rigorous professional training, seamanship and excellence in long-duration ocean sailing.
The deployment also underscores the Indian Navy’s role in promoting India’s maritime traditions and strengthening naval cooperation and people-to-people links with partner countries through sailing expeditions.
