INS Tarkash arrives in Kenya to strengthen India-Kenya maritime ties
New Delhi, Oct 2. Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate INS Tarkash arrived at Mombasa, Kenya, for a goodwill port call, as part of its ongoing deployment in the Indian Ocean Region, highlighting the longstanding maritime partnership between India and Kenya.
The visit seeks to strengthen the relationship between the two Indian Ocean nations, which share historical, cultural and extensive people-to-people ties.
India and Kenya have maintained maritime links across the Indian Ocean for centuries, with both countries attaching importance to greater cooperation between their navies to build mutual trust, understanding and operational interoperability.
During the port call on September 29, personnel of the Indian Navy and the Kenya Navy are scheduled to participate in a series of professional, social and cultural engagements. These will include interactions between naval personnel, exchanges of operational experiences and cross-learning activities aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and interoperability.
The programme will also include cultural exchanges and community outreach activities, providing personnel of the two navies opportunities to interact beyond their professional roles.
Sports events and community-service initiatives are also planned as part of the visit. These activities are expected to strengthen camaraderie between the naval personnel while promoting greater appreciation of each other’s culture and traditions.
The visit by INS Tarkash is part of India’s broader efforts to strengthen maritime partnerships with friendly countries in the Indian Ocean Region. It also reflects the country’s MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision, which places emphasis on cooperative security and growth among countries in the wider maritime region.
The port call is expected to further consolidate the enduring India-Kenya maritime partnership and reinforce cooperation between the two navies in support of a secure and stable Indian Ocean.
