Pratt & Whitney, Key Suppliers Inaugurate 3 E-Learning Centres in India

Mumbai. Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp., and its suppliers celebrated the inauguration of three e-learning centres across India – one in Bengaluru and two in Hyderabad – this week, a company press statement said July 18.

Pratt & Whitney and its suppliers contributed more than $93,000 (Rs 59,40,000) for the setup of the e-learning centres, which will introduce school children to digital courses in the areas of math and science.

By establishing 27 e-learning centres since 2011, Pratt & Whitney is helping provide more than 4,000 students of Bengaluru government schools, and 3,500 students of Hyderabad government schools, with access to a top-quality digital education in science, math and in current state curriculum.

The centres are equipped with modern facilities, tools and technology to support both teachers and students. These resources include computers, wireless internet, digital projectors, display screens, audio systems, software, subscriptions and furniture.

“At Pratt & Whitney, we are committed to supporting the communities in which we operate and are especially passionate about empowering children with the skills and knowledge needed for a successful future,” said Tom Prete, Vice President, Engineering, Pratt & Whitney. “We are proud to contribute to these e-learning centres and enable the development of the next generation of engineers, scientists and business professionals.”

The project was executed by Engineers Without Borders India (EWB-India) and students from the University of Connecticut. In addition to UTC and Pratt & Whitney, United Technologies Research Center, Belcan, QuEST Global Engineering, Cyient, RGBSI, Genpact, CS Canada provided financial support for the project.

Pratt & Whitney’s support for the e-learning centres builds on the charitable donations it has made in India over the last decade. In 2014 UTC, Pratt & Whitney and its suppliers donated $113,000 (Rs 71,72,000) to construct a residential building for more than 100 girls at the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust in Hyderabad.

In 2015 UTC, Pratt & Whitney and its suppliers donated $55,000 for constructing new kitchen, dining hall, and kitchen equipment. Since 2004, Pratt & Whitney has made annual contributions to the Association Saikorian that now total more than $186,000 (Rs 1,18,05,000), including this year’s contribution of $19,000 (Rs 12,54,000). Additionally, Pratt & Whitney has funded major projects with Project Krushi and two schools in Gowdavally, Hyderabad.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power units. United Technologies Corp., based in Farmington, Connecticut, provides high-technology systems and services to the building and aerospace industries.
