INS Tarkash arrives in Seychelles, reinforces maritime partnership with island nation
New Delhi, June 13. Indian Naval Ship (INS) Tarkash, a stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, arrived at Port Victoria in Seychelles on June 12 as part of its ongoing operational deployment in the Southwest Indian Ocean Region, underscoring the close maritime ties between the two countries.
The warship escorted Seychelles Coast Guard vessel PS Zoroaster from India to Seychelles following the completion of its refit at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata. The mission highlighted the enduring defence and maritime partnership between New Delhi and Victoria, spanning shipbuilding, maintenance and operational cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the transit also demonstrated the growing interoperability between the two maritime forces and their shared commitment to addressing common challenges in the Indian Ocean Region.
During the port call, the Commanding Officer of INS Tarkash, Captain Rohit Mishra, is scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials of the Seychelles government and the Seychelles Defence Forces. The visit will also feature cultural and social interactions aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties.
In addition, India will hand over critical spares and essential stores to the Government of Seychelles, further supporting the operational capabilities of the island nation’s maritime forces.
The port visit is expected to deepen camaraderie and enhance bilateral cooperation, reflecting India’s continued commitment to strengthening its strategic and security partnership with Seychelles in the Indian Ocean region.
