Mizoram’s Captain Lalrinawma Sailo honoured with Kirti Chakra for exceptional bravery
New Delhi, August 15. Captain Lalrinawma Sailo of 4 PARA (Special Forces) has been conferred the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, for displaying exceptional courage during a classified high-risk operation.
Hailing from Chanmari in Aizawl, the decorated officer is an alumnus of the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), the National Defence Academy (NDA), and the Indian Military Academy (IMA). He is only the second person from Mizoram to receive the Kirti Chakra, following Subedar Chalhnuna of the Assam Rifles.
Although the specifics of his mission remain undisclosed, the award reflects his extraordinary valour in the face of grave danger.
This year, the President approved 127 gallantry awards and 40 distinguished service awards. Captain Sailo is one of only four Kirti Chakra awardees in 2025, alongside Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari, Lance Naik Meenatchi Sundaram A, and Sepoy Janjal Pravin Prabhakar.
