Fly91, a new Indian regional carrier, starts with an Inaugural Flight from Goa to Agatti
Goa. India’s newest carrier, Fly91, held its first flight from the sunny, fun city of Goa to Agatti, the new destination in India’s Lakshadweep island the Government is promoting for boosting domestic tourism.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia virtually flagged off the inaugural flight of FLY91, operated by a leased ATR 72-600, with invited guests, and the airline will start commercial operation from March 18, with Goa as its base. According to airline’s MD & CEO Manoj Chacko, an industry veteran, the airline will provide last mile connectivity to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Hyderabad, Sindhudurg, Bengaluru, Jalgaon and Agatti are airline’s destinations.
An airline statement said: Founded by industry veterans and backed by professional funding, FLY91 aspires to make air travel accessible to every Indian. Despite the considerable growth in air traffic over the past decade, the founders remain steadfast in their vision to enable the next 100 million Indians take flight, with focus on regional towns in India. This vision is reflected in their selection of ATR 72-600 fleet, which is a smart choice for efficient and sustainable operations from most regional airports in the country.”
Notably, Agatti is about 500km from Goa. In the beautiful and scenic Minicoy and Lakshdweep islands. Its airport was opened in April 1988 but not much development has been there. There is a renewed push from the Government now to popularise this destination, with both air and sea links.
Just recently, Cordelia Cruise, started its inaugural service from Mumbai to Agatti. India Strategic’s executive editor Umang Kohli was onboard, and he has described the service as very comfortable, welcoming and efficient.
