Maj Gen Rachel Thomas appointed Additional Director General of Military Nursing Service
New Delhi, June 1. Major General Rachel Thomas assumed charge as the Additional Director General of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) on June 1, succeeding Major General Lissamma PV, who retired on May 31 after completing four decades of distinguished service.
An alumna of the College of Nursing, Armed Forces Medical College, Maj Gen Thomas was commissioned into the Military Nursing Service on June 1, 1988. Over a career spanning nearly 38 years, she has served in a wide range of clinical and administrative roles across the Armed Forces Medical Services.
The senior officer has held appointments at several prominent military hospitals, including healthcare establishments located in border areas under the Northern and Eastern Commands. Her experience encompasses both patient care and healthcare administration, contributing to the delivery of medical support to armed forces personnel and their families in diverse operational environments.
The Military Nursing Service forms an integral part of the Armed Forces Medical Services and plays a critical role in providing nursing care, medical support and healthcare management across military hospitals and field formations.
Maj Gen Thomas takes over the appointment at a time when the Armed Forces Medical Services continue to focus on enhancing healthcare delivery and operational medical preparedness. Her extensive experience in military nursing and hospital administration is expected to contribute to the further strengthening of the organisation.
