On IAF’s 93rd anniversary, CDS hails air power as key to future warfare

New Delhi. Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on October 8 extended warm greetings to the Indian Air Force (IAF) on its 93rd anniversary, praising its professionalism, technological advancement, and operational excellence.

In his message, General Chauhan lauded the IAF for repeatedly demonstrating how air power can decisively shape strategic outcomes, citing its performance in Operation Sindoor as a striking example of precision and reach, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence.

“The IAF reaffirmed its ability to strike deep inside enemy territory with accuracy and confidence,” he said.

He commended the Air Force’s advanced network of sensors, radars, and command systems that played a key role during Operation Sindoor, enabling the effective detection and neutralisation of enemy aircraft, aerial weapons, and drones. The CDS particularly praised the seamless coordination between the IAF’s Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS) units, supported by the Indian Army’s Air Defence formations, under the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS).

General Chauhan highlighted the IAF’s continuous modernisation drive through the induction of indigenous platforms, adoption of advanced weapon systems, and doctrinal evolution to operate effectively across the entire aerospace spectrum.

Reflecting on the changing face of warfare, he observed that the “character of war is undergoing a profound transformation”, with future conflicts expected to be swift, technology-driven, and fought across multiple domains.

“Under such conditions, air power will remain the dominant factor in modern combat,” he asserted.

The CDS also hailed the IAF’s record of humanitarian service, calling it a dependable first responder in disaster relief and evacuation missions.

“The IAF has consistently displayed its reach and responsiveness by rescuing civilians caught in conflict zones and delivering critical aid during natural disasters,” he said.

Concluding his message, General Chauhan saluted the IAF’s legacy of valour and commitment, noting that for over nine decades, it has stood as a pillar of national strength – defending India’s skies and extending a helping hand in times of crisis.
