Indian naval ships conclude Vietnam visit, reinforce maritime cooperation in SE Asia
New Delhi, June 24. Indian Naval Ships Udaygiri and Kavaratti on June 24 departed Ho Chi Minh City after completing a port call in Vietnam as part of their operational deployment in the Southeast Asian region.
The visit was led by Rear Admiral Alok Ananda, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, and formed part of India’s efforts to deepen maritime engagement with regional partners.
During the visit, Rear Admiral Ananda called on senior officials of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Vietnam People’s Navy to discuss maritime cooperation, professional exchanges and regional maritime security issues.
As a mark of respect for Vietnam’s national heritage, the Indian delegation, led by the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet and accompanied by the commanding officers of INS Udaygiri and INS Kavaratti, laid a wreath at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh, paying tribute to the legacy of the Vietnamese leader.
Personnel from the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy also participated in a series of professional interactions and bilateral exercises aimed at sharing operational experiences and enhancing cooperation in ensuring maritime security and safe seas in the region.
To commemorate the 12th International Day of Yoga, naval personnel from both countries conducted a joint yoga session onboard INS Kavaratti, reflecting the growing people-to-people dimension of bilateral ties.
The visit also saw the Indian Ambassador to Vietnam, representatives of the Vietnam People’s Navy, members of the diplomatic community and other distinguished guests being hosted onboard INS Udaygiri.
India and Vietnam share an Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership built on mutual trust, converging strategic interests and strong people-to-people connections. The port call underscored India’s commitment to its Act East Policy and the MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision while reaffirming New Delhi’s resolve to strengthen maritime cooperation with friendly countries in the Indo-Pacific.
