Modi, Pashinyan review India-Armenia ties, discuss defence and mining cooperation
Bishkek, August 31. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Armenian counterpart Nikol Pashinyan reviewed the expanding India-Armenia partnership, with defence, economic ties, pharmaceuticals, mining, education and culture figuring prominently in their discussions on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit here.
The meeting on August 31 was the first between Modi and Pashinyan since the Armenian Prime Minister was reappointed following the country’s general elections in June.
Modi congratulated Pashinyan on his electoral victory and return to office. The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the recent expansion of bilateral cooperation across several sectors and reiterated their commitment to further deepening the relationship, which they described as being characterised by warmth and friendship.
The discussions covered a broad range of bilateral issues, including cooperation in defence, economic and commercial sectors, pharmaceuticals, mining, education and cultural exchanges.
Modi and Pashinyan also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia. Modi reiterated India’s position that sustained dialogue and diplomacy were essential to achieving peace and stability in the region.
Pashinyan briefed Modi on the latest developments concerning the implementation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Agreement.
The two leaders agreed to work closely to further strengthen bilateral relations and advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
