Navy Education Society holds annual conference in Visakhapatnam, highlights push for standardisation and inclusive growth
New Delhi, November 16. The Navy Education Society (NES) concluded its Annual Conference 2025 in Visakhapatnam, marking four days of discussions on reforming and strengthening the network of Naval Schools across the country. The event, held from November 10 to 13 at the Eastern Naval Command, brought together senior naval officers, academic leaders and administrators at a time when the education system is transitioning to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on November 16, key meetings of the Executive Committee, the Management Advisory Committee (MAC) and the Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) formed the backbone of this year’s conference, with sessions focused on policy direction, academic standards and the operational functioning of Naval Schools.
The Executive Committee meeting on November 12 was chaired by Vice Admiral CR Praveen Nair, Controller Personnel Services and Chairperson of NES. The MAC and AAC deliberations were led by Commodore SM Urooj Athar, Commodore (Naval Education) and Vice Chairperson of the society. Officers from Naval Headquarters and senior representatives from Naval Schools across India participated in the proceedings.
Delegates shared case studies on institutional challenges and successful problem-solving practices, sparking detailed discussions aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing academic delivery. The conference generated several actionable recommendations, emphasising knowledge exchange and collaborative decision-making.
In a significant first, the conference included Sankalp Schools – specialised institutions supporting children with special needs from the Naval community – reflecting NES’s expanded focus on inclusivity, pre-vocational learning and life-skills development.
Delivering the keynote address, Vice Admiral Nair underlined the need for uniformity across the NES system to ensure consistent, student-centric and inclusive learning environments for children of naval personnel. He reviewed the progress made in the past year, noting reforms aligned with NEP 2020, improved standardisation efforts, and upgraded infrastructure and faculty development initiatives aimed at positioning Naval Schools as models of excellence.
Vice Admiral Nair also unveiled the revised Vision and Mission Statements of the Navy Education Society. The updated framework aims to better prepare students for the future while grounding them in strong values, echoing the transformative spirit of NEP 2020. The Chairperson highlighted the achievements of Naval Schools nationwide and reaffirmed NES’s commitment to delivering high-quality, inclusive education.
As part of the conference, the NES Academic Awards for 2024-25 were presented to recognise outstanding academic performance. Delegates also visited the Navy Children Schools in Visakhapatnam for an overview of ongoing educational initiatives.
