One-Day Regional Meet for Southern States & UTs on “Leveraging Space Technology Applications for Viksit Bharat 2047”

Bengaluru, July 23, 2025. As part of National Meet 2.0, a one-day Regional Meet titled “Leveraging Space Technology Applications for Viksit Bharat 2047” was held on July 9, 2025, at ISRO Headquarters, Bengaluru. The event was organized by the Regional Remote Sensing Centre–South, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).

Approximately 125 delegates participated, including representatives from seven States and Union Territories—Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep, officials from ISRO/DOS, NewSpace India Ltd. (NSIL), IN-SPACe, and non-governmental entities (NGEs).

Dr. S.K. Srivastava, CGM, Regional Centres, NRSC, welcomed the dignitaries, followed by opening remarks from Dr. J.V. Thomas, Director, EDPO, ISRO. Notable contributions came from Mr. Brajendra Navnit, IAS, Principal Secretary, IT & DSD, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Prof. Dr. K.P. Sudheer, Principal Secretary, Science & Technology, Kerala. Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director, NRSC, delivered the inaugural address and highlighted the importance of satellite data in day-to day activities.

Chairman, ISRO/Secretary, DOS, released the document on “Future Requirements of Space Technology and Space Infrastructure,” collaboratively prepared by working groups from the participating States/UTs and the ISRO team. In his address, he emphasized the critical role of space programs—particularly in Earth observation, satellite communication, and navigation—and assured full ISRO support for region-specific applications and requirements.

Key technical presentations included:

  • “Indian Space Program for National Development” by the Director, EDPO
  • “Commercial Opportunities” by the Director, Tech & Strategy, NSIL
  • “Space Reforms” by the Director, Strategy & Planning, IN-SPACe

State officials, including Directors of Remote Sensing Centres and Science & Technology Departments, along with nodal officers, outlined specific needs such as high-resolution satellite data, access to ISRO-generated thematic maps, and enhanced technical collaboration and capacity building.

Ten non-governmental entities also presented their specialized expertise in space applications.

The event concluded with positive note on ISRO’s contribution to make satellite data and ready-to-use applications, the real value is unlocked when state governments weave these tools into day-to-day governance—and establish feedback loops that continually refine the products and drive a self-sustaining space-technology economy.
