Over 17,000 runners from 17 countries participate in 10th Vizag Navy Marathon
New Delhi, December 14. The 10th edition of the Vizag Navy Marathon concluded in Visakhapatnam on December 14 with record participation, drawing over 17,000 runners, including athletes from 17 foreign countries. The event marked a significant milestone for the marathon, reflecting its growing national and international stature.
The Full Marathon (42 km) was flagged off by Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, who also presided over the prize distribution ceremony. The Half Marathon and the Sankalp Run were flagged off by Priya Bhalla, President of the Navy Wives Welfare Association (Eastern Region). The 10 km and 5 km runs were flagged off by the District Collector and the Commissioner of Police, respectively.
Several senior naval officers, veterans, civic officials and representatives from partner organisations, including the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, State Bank of India and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, were present, adding to the scale and significance of the event. The marathon offered prize money exceeding Rs. 10 lakh and attracted participants ranging from professional athletes to amateur fitness enthusiasts.
The event was organised with extensive coordination between the Eastern Naval Command, the district administration, city police and local volunteer groups, ensuring smooth conduct and safety arrangements throughout the route. Participants were also provided insurance cover, along with improved facilities and benefits introduced in this edition.
With participation from overseas runners and the introduction of enhanced features for athletes, the Vizag Navy Marathon has consolidated its position as one of the leading road-running events in the region. Vice Admiral Bhalla congratulated the winners and participants and expressed appreciation to the civil authorities and volunteers for their role in making the event a success.
