Air India Appoints Oscar Travel Services as Passenger GSA in Malaysia

GURUGRAM/KUALA LUMPUR, September 13. Air India, India’s leading global airline, has selected Oscar Travel Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oscar Holidays, to serve as its Passenger General Sales Agent (GSA) in Malaysia.

As part of the partnership, Oscar Travel Services will facilitate reservations & ticketing, support marketing efforts, and provide comprehensive passenger sales support in Malaysia on behalf of Air India, thus strengthening the airline’s presence in the market and supporting its global expansion.

Oscar Travels harnesses the extensive expertise and resources of Oscar Holidays Group, and collectively represents more than six carriers globally. This joint venture brings together their diverse strengths, market knowledge, and industry experience to deliver exceptional services to Air India.

Johnson Francis, Director of Oscar Travels, said: “It is a privilege for us to have been selected as Air India’s GSA in Malaysia. We are fully committed to utilizing Air India’s extensive network, our profound industry knowledge, and our customer-centric approach to showcase Air India’s offerings and enhance its presence in the Malaysian market. We are particularly enthusiastic about the recent upsurge in passenger traffic between India and Malaysia across all traveller segments. By leveraging this favourable trend, our goal is to provide passengers with seamless and exceptional travel experiences while nurturing cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries.”

Air India starts a daily non-stop service between Delhi and Kuala Lumpur, using its two-class configured Airbus A320neo aircraft, starting 15 September 2024.

The new route will further strengthen Air India’s network of destinations in Southeast Asia, offering a new flight option to an increasing number of travellers between India and Kuala Lumpur, and opening new connections for Malaysian travellers to access Air India’s global route network. The new service will also enable convenient one-stop connections for travellers between Malaysia and the UK, multiple points in Europe, and the Middle East via Air India’s hub at Delhi.

Air India flies non-stop between India and five other points in Southeast Asia, namely Singapore, Bangkok and Phuket (Thailand), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), and Yangon (Myanmar).

As part of its comprehensive transformation following privatisation, Air India is undergoing significant changes across its functions and organisation. The airline has started receiving deliveries from its record- setting aircraft orders for 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, including its Airbus A350 and A320 aircraft with world-class cabin products.

Air India recently unveiled its brand-new cabin products on its three-class configured A320neo aircraft, featuring Premium Economy in addition to Business and Economy cabins.

The airline is set to have a total of 41 A320neo in the new product by mid-2025. Additionally, Air India will commence a full interior refresh of its legacy widebody fleet in 2025 retrofit programme, which includes installation of brand-new seats in every cabin and new inflight entertainment systems, among other changes.

About Air India:

Founded by the legendary JRD Tata, Air India is a pioneer of Indian aviation. Since its first flight in 1932, Air India has built an extensive global network that spans 29 countries across five continents, connecting India with major destinations in USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific, Australia, and the Middle East.

After its homecoming in 2022, from the Government of India to the Tata group, Air India embarked on Vihaan.AI, a five-year transformation journey, with a vision to be a global airline with an Indian heart. The first two phases of this transformation, ‘Taxi’ and ‘Take-off’, were focused on fixing the basics and building foundations for growth. The airline has now entered the ‘Climb’ phase, which will focus on achieving excellence in operations and customer experience.

A member of Star Alliance, the largest global airline consortium of leading international airlines, Air India offers seamless connectivity to passengers as a full-service global airline, while its wholly owned subsidiary Air India Express operates as a low-cost airline flying within India and nearby countries.
