INS Sahyadri holds exercise with Philippine Navy ahead of Manila port call
New Delhi, November 27. Indian Naval Ship Sahyadri, an indigenously built stealth frigate, conducted a maritime exercise with the Philippine Navy before arriving in Manila for the harbour phase of its ongoing Indo-Pacific deployment.
The Navy said the ship is currently engaged in a series of bilateral and multilateral drills with partner countries across the region, including MALABAR 2025, AUSINDEX 2025, JAIMEX-25, and its first-ever bilateral exercise with the Republic of Korea Navy.
In its engagement with the Philippine Navy, the two sides carried out tactical communication and navigation manoeuvres, Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) drills, and flying operations, aimed at enhancing coordination and interoperability.
During its stay in Manila, Sahyadri’s crew will take part in professional exchanges, cross-deck interactions, and subject matter expert sessions. The visit will also feature cultural and community activities such as friendly sports matches, a joint yoga session, and assistance to a local orphanage.
The deployment, the Ministry of Defence said, highlights India’s deepening defence partnership with the Philippines and reflects New Delhi’s wider commitment to peace, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific under its Act East Policy and SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.
