India voices concern over Venezuela turmoil, urges dialogue and issues travel advisory

New Delhi, January 4. India on January 4 said it was deeply concerned about the rapidly evolving situation in Venezuela and urged all parties to resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue to safeguard regional stability.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it was closely tracking developments in the South American nation and reiterated India’s support for the welfare and safety of the Venezuelan people.

The statement comes after the US carried out an operation in Venezuela on January 3 and whisked off the South American country’s President Nicolas Maduro and his wife triggering a regime change.

“Recent developments in Venezuela are a matter of deep concern,” the MEA statement reads. “We are closely monitoring the evolving situation. India reaffirms its support for the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela and calls upon all concerned to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability in the region.”

The Ministry added that the Indian Embassy in Caracas is in touch with members of the Indian community and will continue to extend all possible assistance to them.

On January 3, the US operation was conducted, the MEA had issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals in view of the unfolding situation. Indians were strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Venezuela, while those already in the country were asked to exercise extreme caution, limit their movements, and remain in regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Caracas through its email and emergency helpline.
