All 24 Indian crew members rescued after missile attack on tanker off Oman coast
New Delhi, June 9. All 24 Indian crew members aboard the Palau-flagged oil tanker MT Marivex were safely rescued after the vessel came under a missile attack while anchored off Masirah, Oman, the Ministry of Defence said on June 9.
According to the ministry, the Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai received information about the attack at around 2:20 pm on June 8. The tanker was anchored off the Omani coast when the incident occurred.
Following the alert, the MRCC Mumbai established contact with the Oman Maritime Search and Rescue Centre (OMSC) and remained in close coordination with Omani authorities and other stakeholders to monitor developments and facilitate assistance for the crew.
At around 5 pm, the OMSC confirmed that all 24 Indian nationals on board had been successfully evacuated by helicopters of the Oman Navy. Authorities said the rescued seafarers were safe and had suffered no casualties or injuries.
The vessel, however, continues to remain anchored off Masirah.
The Ministry of Defence said the operation highlighted the effectiveness of international maritime cooperation and the strong coordination mechanisms among rescue agencies in the region. It also underscored the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Indian seafarers and providing timely support during maritime emergencies.
