Indian Navy to hold multi-speciality medical camp across Lakshadweep from January 12
New Delhi, January 10. The Indian Navy will organise a five-day Joint Services Multi-Speciality Medical Camp across the union territory of Lakshadweep from January 12 to 16, 2026, in a major healthcare outreach aimed at providing specialised treatment and strengthening civil-military cooperation in the island territory.
The camp will be inaugurated by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and will offer a wide range of medical services, including specialist consultations, diagnostic support and selected surgical procedures such as cataract operations. The initiative is designed to supplement Lakshadweep’s existing public healthcare system by bringing specialist and super-specialist care directly to residents.
The medical camp will be conducted on the islands of Agatti, Kavaratti, Androth, Amini and Minicoy by a joint medical team drawn from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The tri-services participation is expected to ensure a broad spectrum of clinical expertise and coordinated delivery of care.
Doctors will provide consultations in basic disciplines such as general medicine and dental surgery, along with super-specialties including cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and gastroenterology. In addition to outpatient services, surgical teams will carry out cataract and selected general surgical procedures in coordination with local health authorities. Specialist screening of patients has already begun in the islands.
Medical teams will also guide patients on follow-up care to ensure continuity of treatment after the camp concludes. A strong focus will be placed on preventive healthcare, with doctors interacting with residents on lifestyle diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition and overall well-being.
The Navy has been conducting medical camps in Lakshadweep for several years as part of its Navy Day outreach, covering primary care and dental services across most islands. With improvements in healthcare delivery and growing community participation, the initiative has now been expanded into a full-fledged multi-speciality camp.
The inauguration will be attended by senior naval and medical leadership, including Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command; Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services; and Surgeon Vice Admiral Kavita Sahai, Director General Medical Services (Navy), along with officials from the Lakshadweep Administration.
The Indian Navy said the camp reflects its long-standing commitment to humanitarian assistance, community welfare and healthcare outreach, and is expected to benefit a large number of island residents while reinforcing the bond between the Navy and the people of Lakshadweep.
