PM Modi meets Tufan Erginbilgic, backs Rolls-Royce expansion in India

NEW DELHI. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 11 met Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic and welcomed the British engineering major’s plans to expand its footprint in India and collaborate more closely with the country’s young talent.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister described the meeting as “wonderful” and expressed appreciation for Rolls-Royce’s commitment to scaling up operations in India and partnering with the nation’s “innovative and dynamic youth”.

The meeting followed a statement by Rolls-Royce India highlighting discussions with the Prime Minister on the company’s roadmap to contribute to the government’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision. The company said it aims to significantly expand its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India to make it the largest within its global network, while also co-developing complex manufacturing projects and strengthening high-value engineering capabilities in the country.

Rolls-Royce has been stepping up engagement with India in recent months. The company participated in industry interactions during UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s visit to India last October, which followed the signing of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).

Erginbilgic, who was part of the UK Prime Minister’s business delegation, has previously underscored the company’s long-term ambitions for India, describing the country as a future “home market” for Rolls-Royce. He said the company intends to build on its existing partnership by leveraging its technologies across air, land and sea platforms to strengthen in-country capabilities and forge strategic collaborations aligned with India’s development goals.

He added that Rolls-Royce is committed to supporting India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by driving growth, advancing self-reliance, promoting innovation and enhancing India’s global competitiveness in key industrial sectors.

According to the company, its expertise in civil aviation, defence and energy will play a central role in expanding operations and partnerships in India, contributing to the country’s push for energy security, advanced connectivity and world-class AI infrastructure.
