Surgeon Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan takes charge as DG Hospital Services (Armed Forces)
New Delhi, September 2. Surgeon Vice Admiral Dilip Raghavan, VSM, assumed charge as the Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces) on September 1, 2026, taking over the senior appointment in the Armed Forces medical services.
An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Raghavan joined the institution in 1985 and completed his MBBS in 1989. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on December 26, 1989.
During his career, he has held several important medical and administrative positions, including Command Medical Officer of the Southern Naval Command and Eastern Naval Command. He also served as the Commanding Officer of INHS Asvini in Mumbai, one of the Indian Navy’s premier military hospitals.
During his tenure at INHS Asvini, the hospital was awarded the Raksha Mantri Trophy for Best Command Hospital, recognising its performance and standards of medical care.
In recognition of his distinguished service, Raghavan was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) on January 26, 2026.
In his new role as Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces), Raghavan will oversee the delivery and administration of medical services across the Armed Forces healthcare system.
Raghavan is married to Dr Michelle Vas, a paediatrician specialising in developmental neurology. She is also an alumna of AFMC, Pune, and a former Short Service Commission officer of the Indian Navy.
