Indian Navy receives first indigenously built diving support craft in Kolkata
Kolkata, September 17. The Indian Navy on September 16 inducted DSC A20, the first indigenously designed and constructed diving support craft, delivered by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) at Kolkata.
The vessel is part of a series of five diving support crafts being built by TRSL under a contract signed with the Ministry of Defence in February 2021. Designed to undertake diving operations in coastal waters, DSC A20 is equipped with advanced diving systems and features a catamaran hull with a displacement of around 380 tonnes, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on September 17.
The craft has been designed and constructed in line with Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). Hydrodynamic analysis and model testing during the design phase were carried out at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam.
Officials said the delivery of DSC A20 represents a significant step under the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, reflecting growing self-reliance in defence shipbuilding.
