Through collaborative discussions, knowledge sharing sessions, and interactive workshops, participants will explore avenues for enhancing indigenous defence production, technology development, and innovation: Lt. Gen. Karanbir Singh Brar

By R. Anil Kumar

Bengaluru, May 7. The Indian Army is a pioneer in ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ efforts and has taken a lead in indigenisation. An important facet of creating future upsides in the military during conflicts is to combine its strengths with stakeholders in the civil domain – especially those in industry and academia, said Lt. General Karanbir Singh Brar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Dakshin Bharat Area.

There is a compelling need to establish a common platform where actual users, primarily the procurement agencies of the Indian Army and Southern Command can interact with Defence Enterprises and Academia to ideate and build lasting solutions aligned to future operations and strategic needs, the Lt. Gen. said.

In this endeavour the 1st Southern Star Army Synergia Conclave-2024, will be held in the IT Capital of India, Bengaluru, over the next two-days.

The event jointly hosted by the Indian Army’s Pune based Head Quartered Southern Command, the Dakshin Bharat Area Chennai and Synergia Foundation Bangalore, will bring together Senior Indian Army Officers, leading Academia, Strategic Experts, Industry and Start-ups, on May 8 and 9.

Briefing the Media on the Conclave, Lt. General Karanbir Singh Brar, AVSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Dakshin Bharat Area, said that the Conclave serves as the platform for the Industry, especially the Start-ups, innovators Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), to understand the future of conflicts and align their technologies for use in the defence sector.

The galaxy of speakers from around the Country will endeavour to draw together the most insightful ideas and solutions to a combined audience of users, innovators and manufacturers, Lt. Gen. Brar, said.

The Objective of the Conclave is to establish an Institutional mechanism for the Indian Defence Forces, Defence Enterprises and other stake-holders to interact and form linkages for long term partnerships, initiate research projects to find customised solutions for the present day challenges with the focus being on indigenisation, the GOC stated.

The endeavour will be to get a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges, while adopting advanced technologies like Cyber Security, Quantum Encryptions, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Aerospace and Defence, Satellites and Space, Advance Computing, among others Lt. General Brar highlighted.

Mr. Tobby Simon, President, Synergia Foundation, stressed upon the government, industry and academia to adapt to the frequently and ever- changing paradigms in geopolitics and security.

He said that global threats are mutating, and there is a need to find solutions collectively. The aim of Synergia is to give stakeholders a 360 degree perspective of risk and turn them into opportunities.

Synergia is proud to drive this narrative as it is aware of how important it is for the government and other stakeholders to be aware of the threats of all forms and be prepared to support the armed forces to meet the challenges of modern warfare, Simon added.
