Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu takes over as Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition
New Delhi, November 30. Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu, AVSM, NM, on November 28 assumed charge as the Indian Navy’s Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition (CWP&A), bringing with him more than 38 years of experience in key operational, technical and shipbuilding roles.
Commissioned into the Navy in 1987, Vice Admiral Sadhu holds a postgraduate degree in mechanical engineering and an MPhil in defence and strategic studies. Over the course of his long career, he has served in a wide range of operational and staff appointments, including important stints aboard the aircraft carrier INS Viraat and frontline frigates INS Brahmaputra and INS Dunagiri.
Before becoming a Flag Officer, he handled major responsibilities such as Additional General Manager (Production) at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, Commodore Superintendent of the Naval Ship Repair Yard in Karwar, and Principal Director Marine Engineering at Naval Headquarters.
He also played a significant role in the acquisition and modernisation of the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, serving in various project-related positions, including Senior Naval Engineer Overseer at the Warship Overseeing Team in Severodvinsk, Russia, and later as Director and Principal Director of Aircraft Carrier Projects at Naval Headquarters.
Following his elevation to Flag rank, Vice Admiral Sadhu headed the Warship Design Bureau’s Submarine Design Group, served as Chief Staff Officer (Technical) in both the Eastern and Western Naval Commands, and oversaw major operations as Admiral Superintendent of Dockyards at Visakhapatnam and Mumbai. He is among the few officers to have led major dockyards on both coasts and served as technical chief in both major naval commands.
An alumnus of the Naval War College, Goa, he has been decorated with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Nausena Medal for distinguished service. Prior to his latest appointment, he was Programme Director of the Advanced Technology Vessel Programme in New Delhi.
Vice Admiral Sadhu succeeds Vice Admiral Rajaram Swaminathan, AVSM, NM, who retires on November 30 after 38 years of service. During his tenure as CWP&A, eight Indian Navy ships were commissioned.
