Trump 2.0: India, US review wide-ranging bilateral ties

Washington, January 22. With Donald Trump assuming office as the President of the US for the second time, India and the US reviewed their wide-ranging bilateral relationship during a meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio here on January 21.

“Delighted to meet @secrubiofor his first bilateral meeting after assumption of office as Secretary of State,” Jaishankar posted on his X handle. “Reviewed our extensive bilateral partnership, of which @secrubio has been a strong advocate.”

Jaishankar said that he and Rubio exchanged views on a wide range of regional and global issues.

“Look forward to closely working with him to advance our strategic cooperation,” he added.

In a separate statement, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said that Jaishankar and Rubio affirmed a shared commitment to continuing to strengthen the partnership between the US and India.

“They discussed a wide range of topics, including regional issues and opportunities to further deepen the US-India relationship, in particular on critical and emerging technologies, defence cooperation, energy, and on advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” Bruce stated.

“Secretary Rubio also emphasised the Trump Administration’s desire to work with India to advance economic ties and address concerns related to irregular migration,” she added.
