70 BSF Officials Conferred with Medals on Independence Day- 2022

New Delhi, August 14. On the occasion of Independence Day 2022, 70 BSF personnel have been conferred with Police Medals that includes 19 Police Medals for Gallantry, 05 President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 46 Police Medals for Meritorious service.

  • POLICE MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY (PMG) – 19

Constable Kishan Kumar Dubey of 119 Bn BSF made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while defending an FDL in Distt – Kupwara (J&K) on 9th July 2015, during unprovoked firing by Pak troops. For meticulous operational planning, exemplary courage and operational acumen, Ct Kishan Kumar Dubey has been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously).

During intervening night of 7/8th August 2016, troops of 156 Battalion BSF while deployed in FDL Bhuriwala in Jammu Kashmir, noticed the movement of heavily armed militants trying to infiltrate into own side. Party challenged the militants which further lead to an encounter in which SI Mahendra Yadav, HC Chandra Pal Singh, CT (Cook) Banan Saha made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Own party also neutralized one militant and recovered huge quantity of Arms and Ammunition from the encounter site. For the meticulous operational planning, exemplary combat audacity, operational acumen and flawless conduct of operation, SI Mahendra Yadav, HC Chandra Pal Singh, CT (Cook) Banan Saha have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously) and Ct Harikesh Meena awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry.

On 13th November 2020, while deployed at FDL Atma in Distt – Kupwara (J&K), SI Rakesh Dobhal along with HC Naseeb Singh and Ct Rajesh Kannan of 1011 BSF Arty Regiment successfully retaliated and thwarted the unprovoked firing of Pak Army troops using Mortars and Arty Guns leading to destruction of enemy posts. During the intense firing, SI Rakesh Dobhal while leading a counter attack sustained shell injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. In recognition to their intrepid bravery, gallant action while upholding the highest traditions of the Force, SI Rakesh Dobhal has been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously), and HC Naseeb Singh and CT Rajesh Kannan awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry.  

On 4th April 2019, troops of 114 Bn BSF while deployed in the highly Maoist infested area of COB Mahla, Distt – Kanker, Chhatisgarh were ambushed by Maoist and their Jan Militia by unleashing series of IED blasts and heavy volume of fire. BSF party by displaying grit, conspicuous courage and determination put up a valiant counter attack and in the ensuing fight, ASI Bipul Borah, Ct Tumeshwar Kumar, Ct Ishrar Khan and Ct S Ramakrishna made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. In recognition to their intrepid bravery, gallant action while upholding the highest traditions of the Force, ASI Bipul Borah, Ct Tumeshwar Kumar, Ct Ishrar Khan and Ct S Ramakrishna have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously).

On 3rd Aug 2021, SI Bhuru Singh and Ct Raj Kumar of 64 Bn BSF while deployed in the area R C Nath BOP, Distt – Dhalai, Tripura were out on area domination, when they were ambushed by heavily armed group of NLFT militants. Both the praharis showed an unparalleled bravery and valiance by retaliating effectively before succumbing to their fatal bullet injuries. In recognition to their intrepid bravery, gallant action while upholding the highest traditions of the Force, SI Bhuru Singh and Ct Raj Kumar have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously).
