Indian Navy and Indian Air Force launches the First Radar Simulator (RADSIM) at INS Hansa

Bengaluru, March 22. Under the umbrella of jointmanship and exchange of inert-service expertise, IAF has taken the first productive step with Indian Navy by operationalizing the completely indigenously developed Radar Simulator at INS Hansa on March 18.

The complete software Design & Development was executed in-house at Software Development Institute (SDI), AF and completed in a record 8 months time. SDI is the premier software establishment of IAF based at Bengaluru, and specializes in Avionics Software design development, integration, and testing and airworthiness certification.

Five naval bases are planned to be equipped with this indigenous system, with Indian Navy catering to the hardware and IAF providing the complete operational software. The system comprises of Surveillance Radar Element (SRE), Precision Approach Radar (PAR), Instructor Work Station, Record & Replay and Voice elements. The simulator caters to the training requirements of Air Traffic Controller (ATC) controllers at their training institutes. This is an upgraded system with enhanced software features, and is also planned to be operationalized at 50 airbases of IAF. Commandant SDI has also indicated that joint works in the field of avionics system integration (sensors, weapons and Software Defined Radio (SDR)) on fighter aircraft of IN and IAF is also on the anvil, and spade work for this has already commenced. It is a step in the right direction towards inter-service jointmanship.
