Passing out of Officer Trainees at Naval Base

In an impressive Ceremonial function held on board INS Shardul, at Kochi on 07 Jun 19, 191 officer trainees passed out after their formal afloat training onboard ships of First Training Squadron (1TS) based at Kochi comprising Indian Naval Ships Tir, Shardul, Sujata, Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarathi, and the the Sail Training Ships Tarangini and Sudarshini. Rear Admiral RJ Nadkarni, AVSM, VSM, Chief of Staff (CoS), of Southern Naval Command (SNC) reviewed the impressive Passing Out ceremony and awarded trophies to the meritorious officer trainees.

The coveted Chief of the Naval Staff Trophy and Telescope for the Best All Round Sea Trainee was awarded to Sub Lieutenant Amit Sangwan. Sub Lieutenant Anmol Agrahari received the trophy for standing First in Overall Order of Merit. Sub Lieutenant RR Arvind Navin was awarded FOC-in-C East Rolling Trophy for showing maximum progress in service subjects during the term onboard. Assistant Commandant Kunal Juneja received the DG ICG Trophy for the best Coast Guard Sea Trainee and Sub Lieutenant Samarth Singh was adjudged the Best Sportsman and awarded FOC-in-C South Rolling Trophy.

The sea training of 24 weeks for this batch of officer trainees commenced on 25 Dec 18. During this period, the Sea Trainees were imparted instructions and hands on practical training on General Navigation, Astro Navigation, Communications, Gunnery, Anti Submarine Warfare, “Officer of the Watch / Officer of the Day” duties and Seamanship. They also actively participated in the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) Operation “Sahayata” undertaken by the 1TS ships in Mozambique, consequent to the destruction caused by Cyclone ‘Idai’. Overall, the ships of 1TS spent 72 days at sea, towards training of these young officers, covering more than 14,000 nautical miles. The Sea Trainees visited various ports on the East and West Coast of India and also foreign ports such as Port Louis (Mauritius), Port Victoria (Seychelles) and Port Beira (Mozambique for disaster relief). They were also exposed to sail training onboard INS Tarangini and INS Sudarshini.

The officers will now proceed to various frontline naval warships and Coast Guard patrol vessels on both western and eastern sea board for their Sea Attachment Phase.
