Keel laid for Coast Guard FPV-4, plate cutting begins for FPV-7 at Mazagon Dock
New Delhi, April 6. The Indian Coast Guard’s fleet expansion gathered pace on April 6 with the keel laying of Fast Patrol Vessel-4 (FPV-4) and the plate cutting ceremony for FPV-7 at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited in Mumbai.
The twin milestones are part of the ongoing construction of 14 Fast Patrol Vessels under a project for the Indian Coast Guard, aimed at strengthening coastal security and maritime law enforcement capabilities.
The vessels are being equipped with advanced machinery, including an artificial intelligence-based predictive maintenance system and multipurpose drones. Indigenous content has been enhanced with key components such as gearboxes supplied by Triveni Engineering, Mysuru, and water jets from MJP India.
Designed with an approximate displacement of 340 tonnes and powered by water jet propulsion, the FPVs are tailored for high-speed coastal patrol, surveillance, and enforcement duties.
Officials said the construction of FPV-4 and FPV-7 aligns with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India) initiative and will bolster the Coast Guard’s operational presence across the Indian Ocean Region.
