UNITED NATIONS DAY: United Nations, A Symbol of Hope, Inspiring Dreams of A Better Future

UNITED NATIONS, October 24. For over 70 years, the United Nations (UN), has stood as a symbol of hope, inspiring dreams of a better future and an united world.

United Nations Day celebrated every year on October 24, commemorates the establishment of the UN in 1945. This day highlights the UN’s role in promoting International Peace, Human Rights and development. The Organisation began with 51 member states now includes 193, underscoring its global impact and continued relevance.

The UN day is celebrated each year on October 24 to mark the anniversary of the UN Charter’s entry into force, aiming to raise awareness about the goals and achievements of the World’s body.

The UN was established after world war II, to promote, peace, security and Cooperation among countries. On April 25, 1945, 50 countries came together in San Francisco to draft the UN charter. This draft was adopted on 25, June, and Officially implemented on October 24, 1945, marking the birth of the United Nations.

Although the charter was signed in 1945, it was in 1948, that 24 October was designated as United Nations Day.

The UN focuses on maintaining International Peace and Security, providing humanitarian assistance, protecting human rights and upholding International law.It has been a key player in International Cooperation, Peace and Development for over 75 years.

Secretary-General’s Message on the UN Day: On this UN Day, Secretary-General, Antònio Guterres stressed the need for action and the pursuit of multilateral solutions for peace and prosperity in a troubled World. On the Social Media platform X, he wrote “ In our troubled World, hope is not enough. Hope requires action and multilateral solutions for peace, prosperity and a thriving planet. Hope requires all countries working as one, and I call upon all countries to keep this beacon for the world shining”.
