Jaishankar, Sheikh Abdullah review West Asia situation; India thanks UAE for diaspora support
Abu Dhabi, April 12. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks in Abu Dhabi with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on April 11 to discuss the fast-evolving situation in West Asia and its wider implications.
During the meeting, Jaishankar conveyed India’s gratitude to the UAE leadership for ensuring the safety and welfare of the large Indian community in the country amid regional tensions. He later said the discussions reaffirmed confidence that the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership would continue to deepen.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar began his visit by interacting with members of the Indian diaspora, briefing them on the Government of India’s efforts to safeguard their interests during the ongoing crisis. He also acknowledged their contributions to UAE society and appreciated the support extended by the UAE authorities in protecting the community’s welfare.
In parallel outreach efforts, the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi organised a consular camp at the Indian Social Centre, Al Ain, bringing essential services closer to Indian nationals living in the region.
According to a statement from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers also reviewed the latest regional developments following the announcement by Donald Trump of a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran. Both sides underlined the need for sustained international efforts to restore long-term peace and stability in the region.
