Indian Navy invites Citizens to Participate in Mumbai Heritage Run on August 13, 2022

Mumbai, July 20. The Western Naval Command of Indian Navy is conducting a unique, one-of-a-kind 10 km run around the Heritage District of South Mumbai on August 13th 2022, with the aim of promoting the vibrant heritage of the city and strengthening its bond with Mumbaikars. A custodian of several heritage structures in the city, the Navy is an ardent supporter and promoter of the city’s rich history and is organising the event in partnership with other stakeholders of Mumbai’s heritage legacy.

The Heritage district of South Mumbai has striking architectural richness. Through the run, the Navy hopes to highlight the city’s vibrant heritage as many buildings along the planned route are listed UNESCO World Heritage Sites, with the beautiful Victorian-Gothic and Art Deco ensemble.

The event on 13th August this year is seen as the inaugural edition of the Indian Navy Mumbai Heritage Run and is being organised as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, year-long festivities that mark India’s 75th year of Independence.

In another unique feature, a companion mobile app is being developed to narrate to race-participants nuggets of information and interest of over 30 points of significance along the route. For members of the public, each of these thirty-odd iconic buildings will display narratives in text over the long weekend (13-15 August 2022), describing to them their heritage value. An interesting heritage walk is also planned along the 10 km route on the eve of the run and will remain open to the general public.

The Western Naval Command will be assisted by YouTooCanRun, a leading Sports Management Company, to oversee the successful conduct of the event.

The run has two distance categories :

1. The 10 km Varuna Run covering 32 way points of historic interest.

2. The 5 km Samudra Run covering 19 way points of interest.

Registrations for the event are open. In view of limited slots, interested citizens are requested to register quickly at the following link:
