Thales unveils ‘FlytEDGE Aura’ seatback IFE with 4K OLED, Wi-Fi 7 and modular design at Aircraft Interiors Expo
Hamburg, April 15. Thales has introduced a new generation seatback in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, FlytEDGE Aura, at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2026, positioning it as the lightest, brightest and most powerful IFE solution currently available to airlines.
Designed for the company’s cloud-native FlytEDGE platform and powered by an onboard data centre, FlytEDGE Aura features a redesigned seat-end architecture built around over ultra-thin 4K HDR10 Tandem OLED displays. The system combines high brightness, strong contrast and improved durability with a minimalist design that reduces seatback clutter and enhances passenger viewing space through slimmer bezels and a significantly smaller port module.
The system offers fast-charging capability of up to 120W through dual in-screen USB-C ports, enabling passengers to power high-demand devices such as laptops faster than conventional IFE setups. For wireless connectivity, each seat is equipped with two Bluetooth 6.0 connections for audio pairing and Wi-Fi 7 to ensure high-speed, redundant connectivity linked to the onboard data centre.
At the core of each display is a new Qualcomm processor, which Thales says makes the unit six times more powerful than previous generations. This enables faster navigation, improved responsiveness and readiness for future software upgrades and passenger applications.
FlytEDGE Aura also introduces a compact but powerful seat box capable of delivering 350W of power and supporting quad-seat configurations through advanced power management. The architecture allows dynamic distribution of power across seats while keeping the hardware footprint minimal.
A key focus of the new system is maintainability and upgradeability. The display is built as a three-part modular unit – separating screen, smart electronics and port modules – allowing airlines to carry out rapid repairs or replacements directly on the aircraft wing. Thales says this design can reduce maintenance time by up to 50 per cent and lower long-term operating costs.
The company added that the system is over 30 per cent lighter than its previous generation, contributing to lower fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions for airlines.
Kurt Weidemeyer, Vice-President of Product Management for InFlyt Experience at Thales, said FlytEDGE Aura combines advanced display technology with a future-proof, modular design to help airlines deliver enhanced passenger experiences while keeping fleets ready for evolving technologies.
