The Trent XWB-84 is the world’s most efficient large aero engine, purpose-built for the Airbus A350. Together, they set the industry benchmark for fuel efficiency, delivering unparalleled reliability, durability and versatility.
The Trent XWB-84 already offers 25% lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions, and powers the world’s longest commercial routes with game-changing efficiency. But at Rolls-Royce, we believe in making the best even better.
Continuous Improvement = A more profitable operation
Our latest suite of cutting-edge enhancements strengthens the Trent XWB’s industry-leading reliability while delivering even greater fuel efficiency and lower environmental impact. The Trent XWB-84 EP enables at least a 1% reduction in fuel consumption, contributing to average annual fleet fuel savings of $5 million. This translates to lower CO₂ emissions, reduced operating costs and quieter operations by up to two decibels, all without compromising durability.
Future-ready by design, the Trent XWB-84 EP is already certified to operate with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blends of up to 50%, with capability to run on 100% SAF in the future.
Demonstrating durability
To ensure these enhancements don’t affect the Trent XWB-84’s world leading position on engine durability, our engineers have been hard at work, subjecting the engine to one of our most extensive engine development, certification and maturity programmes ever.
The Trent XWB-84 EP underwent thousands of hours and cycles of rigorous testing on the ground and in the air before becoming certified in December 2024. These were carried out across eight development engines and three flight test engines, all of which performed above and beyond requirements
