Trump sets up ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza, names Ajay Banga, Tony Blair and Marco Rubio as founding members
New Delhi, January 18. US President Donald Trump’s administration has announced the creation of a new ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza, appointing World Bank President Ajay Banga, former UK prime minister Sir Tony Blair and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio as its founding members, according to a BBC report.
Trump will chair the board, which is part of his administration’s 20-point initiative aimed at bringing an end to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The White House said the body is expected to assume temporary responsibility for overseeing Gaza’s administration and coordinating reconstruction efforts in the war-ravaged territory.
The founding executive board will also include Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, private equity executive Marc Rowan, and US National Security Adviser Robert Gabriel. Under the plan, each member will be assigned a specific portfolio considered vital for Gaza’s stabilisation and long-term recovery.
The White House added that further appointments to the board are likely to be announced in the coming weeks as the initiative takes shape.
