UAE naval chief visits India to bolster maritime cooperation
New Delhi, July 9. In a significant step towards strengthening maritime ties between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Maj Gen Humaid Mohammed Abdullah Alremeithi, Commander of the UAE Naval Forces, is on an official visit to India from July 7 to 9.
The visit, aimed at deepening bilateral naval cooperation, began on July 8 with Maj Gen Alremeithi paying homage at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, where he laid a wreath in tribute to India’s fallen soldiers.
He was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour before holding a bilateral meeting with Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff. The two leaders discussed ways to enhance operational engagements, structured training exchanges, and maritime cooperation. Maj Gen Alremeithi also met with the Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan to further explore avenues for defence collaboration.
The high-level visit marks a key milestone in India-UAE naval relations and reflects the growing strategic partnership between the two nations in the Indian Ocean Region.
“Discussions focussed on enhancing operational interactions, structured training exchanges, strengthening cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region & promoting shared commitment to #maritimesecurity,” the Indian Navy spokesperson stated in a post on X.
