UAE welcomes US designation of Muslim Brotherhood branches as terror groups
Abu Dhabi, January 14. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has welcomed the decision of the United States administration under President Donald Trump to designate several branches of the Muslim Brotherhood operating in Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt as terrorist organisations, describing the move as an important step in the global fight against extremism, WAM news agency reported.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the US action reflects the Trump administration’s sustained and systematic efforts to counter violence and destabilising activities carried out by Muslim Brotherhood-linked groups wherever they operate.
The ministry noted that the designation is aimed at cutting off the resources that allow these groups to plan, support or justify acts of extremism, hatred and terrorism, thereby weakening their operational capabilities.
Reaffirming Abu Dhabi’s long-standing position, the UAE said it fully supports international initiatives to combat extremism and terrorism, and to strengthen regional and global security and stability.
