Colloquium on Modern Generation Radar Technology held in Bangalore

  • Radar systems play an essential part in warfare, and the technology is broadly adopted in several countries globally.
  • The Radar Systems market is estimated to reach USD 42.5 billion by 2028 from its USD 31 billion in 2021
  • It is projected to grow at a CAGR of 4.7% from 2021 to 2028.

Bangalore, March 13. Recent breakthroughs in radar technology combined with the demand for compact, affordable and high precision radar for military and commercial applications, has led to a renaissance in the methods and use of radars.

Many of the upcoming sectors of technology growth, namely autonomous vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)and various commercial and civilian applications rely upon solid-state radar and new methods of fabrication and programming. This resurgence is a by-product of escalating advancements in radar, stealth and jamming technologies for defence that is driving conventional radar solutions into obsolescence.

A wide accessibility to sophisticated digital-signal processing (DSP), agile RF transceivers and cutting-edge antenna techniques are fuelling this accelerating change.

The present and future technologies fuelled by sophisticated Digital Signal Processing and cutting edge antennae techniques like quantum radars, Bi-static radars and MIMO radars, were discussed during a Colloquium on Modern Generation Radar Technology conducted at Air Force Technical College(AFTC), Bangalore, today.

The event was inaugurated by Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM, Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) Headquarter Training Command.

The Colloquium organised by Radar Technology Focus Group of AFTC with participation from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Private industry and Academia had speakers from various Defence units, including HQ Training and Maintenance Command.

The aim of the Colloquium was to deliberate on the advancements in radar technologies, acquaintance to ongoing research, trends and challenges.

The speakers included Wg Cdr B R Joshi, from AFTC, LGM Prakasham from Astra Microwaves, Prof. Debdeep Sarkar, IISC, Bangalore and Ms. Aparna Rathi, Scientist “F” LRDE (DRDO), who presented their view points on Present and Future radar technologies fuelled by sophisticated Digital Signal Processing and CuttingEdge Antenna Techniques.

The views shared by them on most talked about technologies like quantum radars, bi-static radars and MIMO radars was duly appreciated by the Chief Guest who  stated that the topic was of high relevance when IAF is heralding an era of technological upliftment by embracing the new technologies. He called upon the attendees to utilise the knowledge in the ongoing modernisation of the IAF assets.
