New Delhi. Air Marshal Pawan Kapoor assumed the appointment of Director General Medical Services (Air) July 1. He has also been appointed as Commodore Commandant of Institute of Aerospace Medicine with immediate effect.
Air Marshal Kapoor was commissioned in AMC on October 10, 1979. He is Masters in Hospital Administration from the prestigious AIIMS, New Delhi. He holds DNB (Health & Hospital Administration) and DHHM. The Air Marshal has done an MMS from Osmania University, an MBA from IGNOU and M Phil (Defence and Strategic Management).

During his illustrious service career spanning 37 years, the Air Officer, apart from specialist duties, has also held imperative appointments including Professor and Head of the Department (HoD) at the Department of Hospital Administration at AFMC Pune, Commandant, MH Est 22 and held the important Staff appointments of Training Officer, AMC Centre & College, Lucknow.
His other appointments include DS at OTC, AMC Centre & College, JDAFMS (P) & Director, AFMS (HR) in the O/o DGAFMS, Brig (Med) HQ 16 Corps, ADG (Information Systems, Health & Professional Services) in the O/o DGMS (Army) and Addl DGAFMS (HR) in the O/o DGAFMS.
Air Marshal Kapoor is a Hospital Administrator of national repute. He has published more than 40 papers in various journals and contributed more than 10 chapters in published books. He is a Post Graduate examiner of several universities and is the founder member of National Accreditation Board of Hospitals & Healthcare Organisation (NABH). The Air Officer is presently the Chairman of NABH Accreditation Committee.
The Air Officer is NDC qualified and is the only AFMS Officer to have been awarded the prestigious Col Pyarelal Gold Medal. He is a recipient of Vishisht Sewa Medal (VSM) in 2009, COAS Commendation in 1981, 2004, 2008 and His Order of Royal Emblem from Sultan of Oman.
