INS Trikand docks in Maputo to deepen India-Mozambique maritime cooperation
New Delhi, March 27. The Indian Navy’s guided missile frigate INS Trikand arrived at Maputo on March 26 as part of its operational deployment in the South West Indian Ocean Region. The visit is aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties between India and Mozambique.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence on March 27, during the port call, the ship’s crew will hand over humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) stores and take part in a range of professional and community engagements. These include training interactions with the Mozambique Navy, a medical camp, yoga sessions, community service activities, and friendly sports events designed to foster goodwill and mutual understanding.
Captain Sachin Kulkarni, Commanding Officer of the frigate, is scheduled to meet Robert Shetkintong, India’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, as well as senior officials of the Mozambique Navy.
The visit reflects India’s broader maritime outreach under its MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) vision focused on building partnerships and promoting stability across the Indian Ocean Region.
