Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Training Command, IAF lays the Foundation Stone for new Hospital Complex at Command Hospital Air Force Bengaluru

Bengaluru. A ground breaking ceremony was held on April 29, 2025 at Command Hospital Air Force (CHAF), Bengaluru with Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), Training Command, unveiling the foundation stone for the construction of a new Modern Multi Storied Hospital Complex in the presence of Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, Director General Medical Services (Air) from Air HQ. The event marks a major milestone in the modernization of India’s military healthcare infrastructure.

The present structure of CHAFB is 157 years old. It handles an OPD of nearly 3 lakh patients, with 21,000 admissions yearly. The increasing work load, together with the need to incorporate rapid advancements in healthcare technology, demand a modern infrastructure with adequate scope for expansion in the future.

The Project on completion shall be a state-of-art 800-bed facility. It will have 16 modular operation theatres, modern ICUs, high-end diagnostic services including advanced imaging and laboratory facilities with a pneumatic chute system. A smart building management system and Ops room will monitor efficient lighting, security, energy consumption, effective management of infrastructure and smart climate control thereby ensuring seamless delivery of healthcare services.

Intelligent design components of the hospital like OPDs on lower floors, spacious lifts and escalators will offer convenient access for patients, including the differently-abled. Digitisation and Integrated Hospital Information System will reduce patient wait times.

In alignment with national green building standards, the facility will adhere to GRIHA 3-star norms, incorporating rainwater harvesting systems, solar power generation of one megawatt capacity and a high capacity effluent treatment plant contributing towards a sustainable and environment friendly ecosystem.

Besides adding a great deal of impetus to quality healthcare delivery to serving personnel and families of the Armed Forces including veterans, the new hospital complex will also serve as a Centre of Excellence for medical training and research within the Armed Forces. It will be a befitting icon of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, having been designed, planned and built entirely with indigenous expertise.

The AOC-in-C was received by Air Vice Marshal Kaushik Chatterjee, Commandant CHAF. Other guests present on the occasion were Senior Staff Officers from HQTC, Air Marshal Tejbir Singh, Senior Air Staff Officer, Air Vice Marshal PCP Anand, Senior Officer-in-Charge Administration and Air Vice Marshal Renuka Kunte, Principal Medical Officer from Training Command along with other functionaries of the hospital.
