Akasa Air showcases first purpose-built aircraft at Wings India 2026, highlights role in India’s aviation growth
HYDERABAD. Akasa Air marked a strong presence at Wings India 2026, India’s flagship civil aviation event being held here from January 28 to 31, by participating in high-level industry discussions, hosting a dedicated exhibition stall and displaying its first purpose-built aircraft at the trade show.
The airline showcased a Boeing 737 MAX 8-200 aircraft, the first built specifically to Akasa Air’s specifications. The aircraft features Safran Z200 seats, a next-generation seating solution aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and the overall in-flight experience. The seats offer a four-inch recline, ergonomically designed backrests and improved cushioning, along with USB-C and USB-A charging ports to meet the needs of digitally connected travellers.
Speaking on the occasion, Akasa Air Founder and CEO Vinay Dube said Wings India serves as an important platform for the global aviation community to reflect on India’s rapidly evolving aviation landscape. He noted that the airline’s purpose-built aircraft reflects its commitment to delivering a world-class flying experience, while its growth mirrors the broader expansion of India’s civil aviation sector through greater connectivity, accessibility and rising passenger aspirations.
As part of the conference programme, Dube participated in the Global CEOs’ Forum and the Airlines Panel, joining industry leaders, policymakers and international stakeholders to discuss air connectivity, emerging trends and the role of airlines in driving economic growth and tourism in India.
Priya Mehra, Chief of Governance and Strategic Acquisitions at Akasa Air, took part in the Aircraft Leasing and Financing Panel, contributing to discussions with senior executives from global leasing companies, aircraft manufacturers, financial institutions and regulators on best practices and the evolving aircraft leasing ecosystem.
During the event, Akasa Air was also formally presented with its International Air Transport Association (IATA) membership certificate by Sheldon Hee, Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific.
The airline said its participation at Wings India 2026 reflects its rapid emergence as a significant player in the sector and its growing contribution to the development of India’s civil aviation ecosystem.
