Indian Army Strikes Terrorist Camps in POK
New Delhi. India struck seven terrorists camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on September 28, ten days after 16 Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistani infiltrators at an Indian Army Brigade Headquarters.
The Director General Military Operations (DGMO), Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, announced the strikes at a press briefing September 29, saying that the special forces of the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes and that “significant casualties have been caused to terrorists and those shielding them.”
He also indicated that some terrorists had been captured and brought to India along with GPS devices with Pakistani markings, adding that he had also spoken to his Pakistani counterpart to inform him of the operation, after conducting it, and sought his cooperation in eliminating terrorism.
All the Indian Army officers and troops returned home safely. Details were not given but indications are that UAVs and possible helicopters were used. The targets were located some two km across the LOC in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
Pakistan officially denied any surgical strikes, acknowledging only firing from the Indian sides killing two Pakistani soldiers.
Significantly, the Indian Army strike was conducted on the Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Mohammed Asif threatened to nuke India, like many of his predecessors. Without of course thinking that a retaliation in kind would simply delete Pakistan forever, a fact that was also mentioned to the Pakistani leadership by US President Bill Clinton after Islamabad inflicted the Kargil War on India in 1999.
Various political parties have congratulated the Indian Army for the brave action, and also expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who sanctioned the strike.
