DRDO, IAF successfully test indigenous RudraM-II air-to-surface missile
New Delhi, June 3. In a major boost to India’s indigenous precision-strike capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF) have successfully conducted flight tests of the RudraM-II air-to-surface missile from an airborne platform.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the missile was tested under extreme release conditions, validating the performance of all critical subsystems and demonstrating its ability to operate effectively in demanding operational scenarios.
Following launch, the missile accurately navigated to a pre-designated target, achieving pinpoint precision. Data collected by multiple tracking and monitoring instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur confirmed that all mission objectives were successfully met.
RudraM-II has been developed indigenously by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, which served as the lead laboratory for the project. The missile programme was executed in collaboration with several DRDO laboratories, including the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), and ITR.
A number of development-cum-production partners, along with agencies such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (RCMA), the Missile System Quality Assurance Agency, and several Indian industries, also played a key role in the missile’s development and testing.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the IAF, defence public sector undertakings, industry partners and all stakeholders involved in the programme. He said the successful tests reflected the increasing maturity of India’s indigenous defence technologies and would further strengthen the country’s self-reliance in advanced weapon systems.
Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and DRDO Chairman also commended the teams associated with the programme, describing the successful flight tests as a significant technological achievement for the country’s defence research ecosystem.
The successful validation of RudraM-II marks another milestone in India’s efforts to develop advanced indigenous missile systems capable of enhancing the operational effectiveness of the armed forces.
