IAF marks Operation Sindoor anniversary with 88-hour relay run across Delhi
New Delhi, May 11. The Indian Air Force organised an 88-hour continuous relay event titled the ‘Op Sindoor Commemorative Run’ in New Delhi from May 7 to 10 to mark the first anniversary of the force’s 88 hours of sustained air operations during Operation Sindoor.
Around 600 runners drawn from various commands of the IAF and the Indian Army took part in the endurance run, which was designed both as a tribute to the operation and as a public outreach initiative. The event was flagged off at 1:05 am on May 7 from India Gate by the Air Officer in Charge Administration and concluded at 5 pm on May 10 with a ceremonial flag-in by the Chief of the Air Staff at Air Force Station New Delhi.
Held in a continuous relay format over 88 hours, the run passed through several prominent landmarks in the capital, including Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg, Air Headquarters Vayu Bhawan, Nehru Park and New Moti Bagh, before culminating at the air force station. Civil authorities facilitated the conduct of the event, while enthusiastic civilian volunteers joined air warriors and soldiers along the route.
The IAF said the objective of the commemorative run was to strengthen esprit de corps among personnel while enhancing the visibility of the armed forces among the public. The event also highlighted the synergy between the military and civil community in organising a large-scale endurance activity in the heart of the national capital.
As part of the associated activities, the IAF Jazz Band performed live at Nehru Park on the morning of May 10, adding a ceremonial and cultural dimension to the commemoration.
The Air Force described the run as a tribute to a key chapter in its operational history and a reflection of teamwork, public engagement and the service ethos that underpinned Operation Sindoor.
